all aboard!

jacob loves the B&O Train Museum. We went on Sunday so he could, ah hem, blow off steam. The tot lot, where you can normally find us on a weekend afternoon, was too wet after the torrential downpours we had all day Saturday. In case you can't tell, he's in the locomotive part of the wooden play train.

We joined the museum in January when Grandmom Maryanne and Pop-Pop Skip were here for a visit. We were looking forward to April, when the B&O would start real train rides, with a real locomotive, included with your admission (or membership). When we entered the train yard on Sunday, we heard an engine preparing to take off down the track and guessed that would be the one used for the rides. We walked down platform 2 to sneak a peak and saw a red engine (a la James?) and then much to my dismay, 3 MARC cars coupled to it--ones that have been retired, but ones that I have probably ridden on, no doubt, in my commute to DC.

When it came time to board the train, we lined up on the platform and were treated to a preview of our upcoming trip, described by our docent as a mile-long stretch of track through an "urban industrialized area," meaning, prepare to see a ton of junk and garbage out the windows. With that preface, it really wasn't that bad. In fact, once the train got moving, our little passenger enjoyed it, but not before we tried with no luck to leave the train before departure due to his tirades. (We were too late; the doors were already shut and locked, so we had to go back to our seats.)Let's just say that this (below) is not the face we saw as we tried to get off the train.

easter egg hunt -- Saturday, April 15, 2006

okay, so I'm trying to make up for a little lost time here. At least I'm only going to go back a week or so(--it's not like I'm going to try to make up for the last 19 months in one day). Some photos from the Easter Egg Hunt last Saturday at Aunt & Uncle Chris's with Maddie and Katie and neighbor friends.

welcome to the adventure!

The commercial says -- "life comes at you fast" -- and then goes on to say, Eat Cheetos or Get Geico, or something like that. Well, nothing makes you more cognizant of the passage of time than a 19-month old who--just a year ago was a cooing stationary cherub--is now running, saying "ewww," "yuck" and imitating the 3 stooges (nyuh, nyuh, nyuh). I hope this site will bring our far-flung family members into the daily rhythms of life with JayJoe (as he now pronounces his name) before he graduates from grad school or truck driving academy -- whatever!
